Safer Internet Day
Tuesday, February 7 is Safer Internet Day – a global initiative to raise awareness about safe internet use.
VENZA is proud to support Safer Internet Day as part of our ongoing efforts to build data protection and security for our clients and those around them.
The scope of topics covered by the day is broad, ranging from traditional threats like malware to harmful content, disinformation, and cyber predators. The day encompasses the safety of all users, but has a special focus on the safety of youth.
It is never too early to begin age-appropriate security awareness training. Here are a few tips for approaching the topic with young people:
- Find relatable, real-world examples. Threats are easier to understand and less likely to be dismissed when placed in the context of situations that a person regularly encounters. For example, talk about common types of fraud on social media.
- Use engaging learning tools. Traditional course-based instruction is fantastic and covers many use cases but can also be supplemented with other forms of training. For example, VENZA offers a series of arcade games that make learning fun while also being instructive.
- Cover the basics. Remember that much of “internet common sense” is the result of trial and error, not natural intuition. Help others avoid the mistakes that you’ve made in the past by teaching fundamentals—hover over links to check their destination before clicking them, be sure that you know the identity of any person that you are communicating with, be wary of any requests for money or promises of things that are too good to be true, and stick to mainstream websites. Reinforce these messages early and often.
VENZA is here to help make safe internet use a core principle of your organization. Get a live demonstration of our products by contacting our Customer Success Team. Ready to elevate your game? Contact Sales to discuss signing up for our programs or adding new solutions to your contract.
